11. Growling Old Man, Grumbling Old Woman (Trad.) Joyce: violin , David Surette: guitar
Devil’s Fiddle is also known as Gabriel’s Song and the fiddle tune that follows it is often called Growling Old Man, Grumbling Old Woman, a tune that reminds me of the folklore surrounding fiddlers and the devil. I started playing violin when I was 9, and much later discovered the wealth of non-classical styles available to a player of the “devil box.” All those other styles of music were exciting and overwhelming- I was hooked. In my naiveté I decided to play music for a living. Ha!
