Possibly the only recording of entirely 6-string banjo music, and probably still the definitive one. It's a revelation to other players, and a delight to listen to. Reid puts this instrument through its paces like no one else, and the banjo strings sing as he plays ragtime, celtic, folk, rock, fiddle tunes, blues, classical, Spanish, old-time, Stephen Foster melodies and a number of amazing original compositions. It's mostly solo fingerstyle, with 3 tracks on the 12-string banjo and a couple flatpicked cuts. 19 instrumentals, 2 songs, all but 1 track are played in standard guitar tuning.
Remastered in 2009- it also got new art work but the music is the same as it was in 1995 when it first came out. There have been 6-string banjos around for more than 100 years, and people from Charlie Jackson, Rev. Gary Davis, Fred van Eps, Kingston Trio & Glen Campbell to Django Reinhart have played them now and then. This CD caused Doc Watson to go get a 6-string banjo.
